Do you like your hokkien mee wet or soaking wet? If you like the soaking wet version, look no further than Tian Tian Cooked Food stall located in Chong Pang Market and Food Centre.
There seemed to be no queue at all when Lao Beng approached one night until I realized that upon ordering, they will take down your table number and serve the food to you.
I placed an order for a $4 hokkien mee and sat down near the stall. I could see that the auntie was working real hard cooking the hokkien mee as she delivered dish after dish and the assistants started dispatching around the food centre. I was disappointed when the last plate from the batch she cooked went to someone else who obviously ordered much earlier than I did.
The assistant saw my disappointment and signalled to me “it’s gonna come real soon to you” while the auntie started cooking another batch of hokkien mee.
The hokkien mee was delivered to me close to ten minutes after I had placed the order.
You can clearly see the delicious broth “ponding” the noodles and I quickly squeezed the lime and mixed the chilli with the noodles.
The tasty broth injected a lot of flavour to the noodles as I gobbled down the soaked hokkien mee and slurped every spoonful I put into my mouth.
The prawns and squids were fresh and chewy as well. At the end of it, it gave me an old-school feeling, it tasted like the same hokkien mee I had when I was a kid which was also soaking wet.
Lao Beng’s Verdict
If you like soaking wet hokkien mee, Tian Tian Cooked Food’s hokkien mee is definitely worth a try.
