It had been a long while since Lao Beng last had nasi briyani. So, the chance came when I visited Tekka Market and Food Centre for lunch a few weeks back.
There are many nasi briyani stalls here but Allauddin’s Briyani caught my attention with their signboard. They labelled themselves as “Briyani Specialist” and I told myself that I need to give it a try.
They actually have two stalls on the opposite of each other, one is selling roti prata and the other is selling nasi briyani.
Two stall assistants helm the stall, one picks the meat and the other scoops the lovely basmati rice from the aluminum pot.
I was deciding between ordering the mutton or fried chicken briyani and eventually settled for the latter at the price of $5.
On first look, I felt that the chicken was a tad too small. Nevertheless, I started to tuck in quickly as I was seduced by the fragrance of the piping hot rice.
The soft and fluffy rice was amazingly nice and the savoury curry gravy gave it an added punch. The fried chicken was rather average but was at least tender and not too dry.
The chunky cucumber slices were tasty too but I was most surprised by the accompanying dhal. It was very delectable and I just kept slurping it until there was none left and quickly resumed my swift inputs of the wonderful rice into my mouth until the last grain.
Lao Beng’s Verdict
I must say this is probably the first time I enjoyed the dhal and rice much more than the meat itself. Do give Allauddin’s Briyani a try and see if you feel the same way too.
